Even some of the worst animated productions of the first quarter of this century having a long evolution before to be the product we known from it today. By the 20th anniversary catalyst, this was the reason why this blog related to the history of Brandy & Mr. Whiskers was made. And by something I wish most animation bloggers paid attention.
Like it was says by the Mr. Whiskers' First Friend review a while ago, the origins of the pair telled us a rather different story, and also with more sophisticated characters designs to it. Even for 2002s standards. Steve Moore and Alex Williams, from the FLIP blog that explain the diffrerent kinds of projects they worked before and after their involvement had accepted the deal to working on this one. Because they needed a job. Like it was when the inflation of this era was the cause of the globalization and the capitalist system by Post-9/11 crash.
Originally, Brandy didn't having to be the sort of female Golden Retriever pooch that been populated by online fans for a long time, but a poodle. And Mr. Whiskers seems to stays respectful to its original design. The more harder to known is why all these changes. The alternate designs of the duo and the show itself were often what I called out the "Modern way to revive these awkward 1940s Screen Gems/Columbia cartoons shorts back". Because it was very overlooked and criticized at its original airings for its (literally!) unnecessary butt-ugly and gross jokes. The writing also lacks finesse and says, sophistication to what the original designs were intented to. This is a show in which the crew seems to having a very fun time to working in, except they forgot lots of times that the audience would not always laugh the same way than them at home.
This is evidently all the Disney corporation fault by gaining none trust to the project back it all started. It's reason why there never having official licenced merchandising related to this series even not in figurines. But we have to stays blunt, it's for the best that these were redesigned to the show we'll love and known for almost two decades. Compared to what else came out to the modern-day trash Disney cartoons offers thesedays, they were look more well-drawn for this era. Such tragic that the show never having the same kind of recognition by the "Animation Elite" of Cartoon Brew and their likes. I guess a animated cartoon featuring a smarmy and spoiled-brat poodle and a kind of rabbit-robot would never work compared to this...
Happy New Year everyone! More goodies is yet to come for 2024 on this blog!
