The "Restoration" word seems a little too dismal to explain, especially to those whom their contribution are put to the preservation of the animation history and all the people who were involved in.
To be clear, remastered a movie, a TV show, a musical piece and even so, an animated work means to clean-up through the original film's negative by removed all the blurred and artefacts as possible and make it like a-new. To something that have impressed me for a longtime by the DVDs era (Looney Tunes Golden Collection, etc.) means that the people in charge to restored these things did an adequate and finally, outstanding job.
Even if some purists and obscure bloggers thought that the films looks too bright and colorful. A kind of jarring contradiction of how several of the best Bob Clampett works at Warners were awfully treated in the DVDs era like, too much fetish for pink (A real-life argument from some blogger I wouldn't name for save my life.) like in A Corny Concerto, remastered in 2004, and then, re-remastered ten years later for Blu-Ray. The change of mind for this particular film when it hit Blu-Ray for the first time speaks volumes of the negligence of who having the difficult task to re-remastered shot-by-shot the whole thing.
Brandy & Mr. Whiskers weren't sadly save either of this awful tendency to Photoshopped titles and credits on their own cartoons! Like a handful of 2020s remastered Warner-owned shorts (MGM including) for HBO Max (Or Max now), the ten firsts half-hour of the series were remastered in HD for long for the Disney+ streaming service (No words if the remaining of the show been remastered yet). Having all says that, it continue the pitiful practice from the large corporation to edit, altered and Photoshopped needlessly elements in any corners.
Let's take a look of the first half-hour be made; Mr. Whiskers's First Friend/The Babysitter's Flub. The two firsts cartoons were reviewed already, so no need to repeat you my thoughts about them.
Here's what looks Mr. Whiskers's First Friend in its own Full-Screen format from what they were originally made:
See how they have altered and even killed the fun little details featuring in this title-card? There's no point that the credits have to be Photoshopped if the show were already put in great condition. Even the little gibberish below to the two protagonists images are missing there. WHAT THE F... IS WRONG WITH DISNEY'S REMASTERS?
The other one, The Babysitter's Flub, is less offensive than the prior was, but, Photoshopping continue to do its job nonthenless, which make the show the more awkward to watch.
It was something I didn't noticing the first time I have seen these pristine new copies, from a somewhat YouTuber. Note that the Season 2 of the show were already in widescreen to the point when the half-hours second season were done. This is just careless by continue the corporation's denigration to an animated series that needs love by still own a considerable legion of fans all around.
Stick with the original, un-photoshopped prints instead. It's not perfect, but it's better than these crappy HD abominations.
