Knowing of how just speaking about "DVD" is seen like old technology thesedays, Studio Distribution Services (A merger between the Home Video divisions of Warner Bros. and Universal that have all beginning in 2021) has just released the past week a straight 30-shorts compilation of the "safe" Tom and Jerry outings called, well,
Tom and Jerry: 85th Anniversary Kids Collection. The "kids" word in this collection can't just be more evident here. It features among the same shorts that are seen endlessly for years on Boomerang or Me-TV (And Me-TV Toons for that matter) and more importantly, in the DVD era for two decades. With a particular theme -- to feature the many supporting characters that were involved in the original M-G-M shorts. Characters like Spike, Tyke, Uncle Pecos, Muscles Mouse, Nibbles (or Tuffy in later shorts) or even so, the annoying duckling who became Yankee Doodle in the Hanna-Barbera studio are showing here. And even for die-hard fans, there's no fewer with the black maid here. For once, it's not a total loss.
In the older days, I was able to sneaking by many websites and forums to made me aware of when my favourite shows are going to hit Home Video altogether. In 2025, I have just Instagram at social media and that's it. I have quit with Facebook in 2022 since someone trying to hacked my account like it do happening many times the prior year. I was mostly forced to quit with the animation community that date of the GAC forums days, but even by this sentiment of comraderie, the animation community of now is more isolated on its own bubble than before.
The 30 selected shorts contains several fan-favorites, some masterpieces (Sorry, no
Mouse Cleaning here!), a few Oscars winners and nominess and even two shorts with the black maid that Warner Bros.-Discovery keep its restrictions with this particular character (Voiced by real-life black actress Lillian Randolph) since its Turner merger... back in 1995! The following list is what we could get on this disc:
Mouse Trouble (Academy Award Winner - Best cartoon, 1944)

Cost aside, the front and rear cover arts have somehow of a very fan-made look of characters that are seen in the program, likely the kind of "boot" work from the Public Domain classic cartoons videos of old. But if this is the new reality to presenting characters as they were on the actual program than the old airbrushed versions of such inarguable cult characters for make it modern, well, this is better than what Warner Home Video has done with the cat-and-mouse pair on Home Video over the 00s when those awful Tales shorts were showing in the same compilation disc than the classic shorts.
And it's also more watchable than anything from the 2013s Tom and Jerry Show. Can't believe that it do ran as longer!
