This is there the results of what a very narcissic, arrogant and gratuitiously violent left-winging woke culture has made about.
I have just read the firsts pages of the first book of Lila et l'usine à sales gosses (Or Lila and the Dirty Brats Factory for translation) yesterday by the main Lombard website. I have says already my earlier impressions in this blog and they are right. But there is something more nuanced and pervert about the existence of that title, if they ever are...
I has started to quit with creating comics pages by September 2023 with the final My Bunch and Me strip and after it, the October 7th 2023 horrific Hamas shooting that slipped away. Since there, the passion of creating these is became lower and lower. Now I've seen what the older cartoonists says so on mid-00s blogs when the newer stuff "sucks", and 20 years later, it didn't changed much.
What pains about that title is you seen already that kind of character before. You have Lila who looked gotten a bad day when her family were forced to moving place and when her father ship her in the school from the same name for a 2-weeks training in this school. My minds were fix, but she is still the stereotypical hipster girl that sounds more an alien than a real person. Just like Elles and its issues between be a social media avatar and a murky Daffy "Asshole"-type from the Depatie-Freleng Speedy Gonzales shorts.
And we look at her like a prankster to become for the trauma she experienced by this school. And that she urged to take control of it, but in what focal point? An artform that act literally like the extreme-left by lecturing us like as we're idiots by vandalize the public property, dreck chaos in the street and in where people go to work and seen everyone at "Fascist", "Racist", "Supremacist-male-white", "Homophobic" or "Mysoginistic" even if they've proven all wrong.
The French-Belgian comic art, heck, elsewhere in the Francophonie, never took big attention to our intelligence or how penned dialogues that are clever and spiritual. It's all bogged down with social media terms like Badass in the firsts pages (Do she ever know what that meant?) or another one says Bonbec is the problem of watching too much old South Park and just be excited about the show's "raunchy" dialogue. It never work and this is why the art need to matured, to quit or stop calling these at series when what we looked on are... Investments Products.
After years to dragged the whole thing with a return to a Saturday Morning-structure on the narrative and then, the Infomercials affair that make characters to felt read their dialogues than actually perform, the decision for me is I couldn't stand a chance to working more on comics projects or be interested to it any more. I have done it for the pasts 32 years of my life, since seen Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog at kid like my first inspiration.
Now, I can look of this anytime by such Fast Ad-Supported Television channels and this is just silly and goofy than entertaining, but to give it credit, New Yorker cartoonist Milton Knight make his own Dr. Robotnik design for the show and the environment of Mobius is very stylish and well-planned... And cherry on top, Sonic and Tails are not chasing for such Chaos Emeralds like in the videogames of old, by save the Mobius denizens of any Robotnik's nefarious plots.
Lila et l'usine à gosses is also biaised to make happening more girls-centric characters at leads in the says factory, as we still are in the '10s marketed Girl Power again. Is only feminists and normal women care? Why is it still a medium for wokes who do the cartooning business just to be cool? What is the point about learning and educated yourself? Since the evil trio of Les Nombrils from 2004 came to life, nothing can stop these opportunists hacks to make an outrage to an art that need some. This is more a work of commitee and corporate-thinkings who dress like that "alien" girl in order to act like bullies to their detractors. Anywhere in the world seen it like visual trash, except from here. It shown our lack of common sense on anything.
A good way to announcing my cartoonist retirement for more times to do the things I use to know and love. This is a stress of less, and hopefully my mental health issue didn't will collapsed much. The artform has losing me in the past three years onto worldwide chaos and by shut their eyes to the reality of inflation and positive uncivility in the public space. We sure do miss the epidemic COVID-19 days more than we may thinking...
