Garfield join Pluto TV

Since the past week, Pluto TV have added in its massive platform catalog the 1988-1994 TV series Garfield and Friends, from the famous Jim Davis' comic-strip, by even have its own channel. Unless most other platforms, Pluto TV have a schedule that is "organized" like if it's came from your TV package with some commercials breaks between, but nevertheless, they aren't at intrusive than those who ran on Television lots of times for hours.

The saturday morning stand-by was throughout its production a victim of everything-- from facing with censors to switching a title's segment for overseas markets to what the hell they've doing with the Intro theme of the cartoon show! Of course, my fewer memories of this was by watching the Syndicated version (That consists of the four first seasons!) and the DVDs sets era when the U.S. Acres cartoons title was modified for Orson's Farm. And of course, from his blog, Mark Evanier having lots of stories to says about this show. If there is still one living person when you can trust the origins of what he ever working in, it would be him!

Fortunately (and unfortunately), Pluto TV have put the delicate position to broadcast the newer HD Masters from 2019 that most of time, cropped the top and bottom of each episodes (Minus the title-cards when in the left and right of the screen, have many colors palettes in need to not stretched the titles-cards.). Though they are better than they were in decades and that the U.S. Acres cartoon title is fix, (Unless from the DVD Box-sets masters) this is a win-win to every casual and die-hard fans.

The channel also include nine of the twelve TV Prime-Time specials made between 1980 and 1991. For some unknown reason, the ones that are related to Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas were omitted like the way a random Pokemon episode, "Holiday Hi-Jinx" was never showed there.

Where the animated series showing its longevity and maturity, the comedy-driven format of this is sorely lacked, which makes the first three seasons all the more essential to watch. The rest of it are hit-or-miss. Even the Orson and Pals segments been affected to these changes when an edict was set in motion to removed completely the songs featuring in each segments. For the crew, it was great new, but for most of the audience who own a love to it, it stays a dealbreaker.

But now that Lorenzo Music (The voice of Garfield) have passed away in the begin of this century, we know that the animated series would never returning in any capability again. I told you that the series was a victim of everything, so much that re-drawed clumsily the opening theme from the first two seasons for make it more "modern" are more vandalism than anything. 9Story have once again pains the memory of people who have watched it when it originally came on CBS.

A shame if Garfield deserved better for such of a HD restoration treatment.

Note: For the fews who have known about my prior post, it was deemed a little too hot or innapropriate that it was criminally plugged with a warning for sexual references. The former goal of it was not to made me in trouble but to explain why such webplaces having a derivative pattern of the way sex are exploited in the internet, no mention that too many materials there are just wrong in every levels, with the worst forms of exageration and oversexualization to females, even if they're underages. For my own safety, this post was removed, and I can be thanks myself to not longer troubled the Blogger administrators now.
